Spring in Vancouver: a Photo Essay

Spring has to be my favourite season in Vancouver. The Pacific Northwest winters are not particularly bad–the weather is mild, the grass and many trees stay green, and some plants actually bloom in winter–but spring still brings an urgent sense of renewal and life. It arrives as early as February and a year of rotating blooming flowers is set in motion.

The daffodils in the hills above the seawall around English Bay start blooming at the end of February.

Crocuses spring forward in the grass and the neighbourhood flower beds at the end of February and early March.
